How to update your name with TSA PreCheck and Global Entry
TSA PreCheck and Global Entry are related trusted-traveler services, but their name-change procedures are different. Update each program before relying on the benefit under your new name.
Quick answer
TSA PreCheck: contact the enrollment provider you originally used; TSA’s KTN lookup identifies it if needed. Global Entry: use your Trusted Traveler Programs account and follow CBP instructions; a legal name change generally requires an in-person enrollment-center visit.
Why matching names matter
The name on your airline reservation, identity document, and trusted-traveler membership must match. TSA says members who change their name without updating their TSA PreCheck membership cannot use the benefit until the update is completed.
Update TSA PreCheck
- Find your enrollment provider. Use TSA’s official Known Traveler Number lookup if you do not remember whether you enrolled through IDEMIA, CLEAR, or another approved provider.
- Contact that provider. Providers give the exact submission instructions and acceptable documents for personal-information changes.
- Supply the requested evidence. This commonly includes legal name-change and identity documents, but use the provider’s current list.
- Wait for confirmation. Do not assume the name is updated merely because your driver’s license or passport changed.
Update Global Entry
- Sign in to the official Trusted Traveler Programs portal and review your profile.
- Use CBP’s enrollment-center locator to confirm the nearest location and its current hours or appointment policy.
- Bring your updated passport or other required identity document plus the certified marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order supporting your legal name change.
- Ask the enrollment center to update your Global Entry record. CBP states that name changes must be reported in person.
Plan around upcoming travel
- Book travel in the exact name shown on the identity document you will present.
- Start the trusted-traveler update after your core identity documents are updated.
- Allow time for provider review and a possible enrollment-center visit.
- Verify the updated profile before adding the KTN/PASSID to a reservation under the new name.

Frequently asked questions
Who changes my TSA PreCheck name?
The enrollment provider you used—not the airline. TSA’s official lookup can identify the provider associated with your KTN.
Can I update Global Entry entirely online?
CBP permits some profile changes online, but its guidance says members who change their name must notify CBP in person at a Global Entry enrollment center.
Can I travel while the update is pending?
You can travel if your reservation matches the identity document you present, but TSA PreCheck or Global Entry benefits may not work under mismatched information. Confirm with the agencies and airline for your itinerary.
